In Response: Shifting Architectures and Painted Landscapes is an in-gallery program that brings together artists, architects, and scholars to examine and respond to the themes of place, space, and abstraction through works in the exhibition Julie Mehretu, a mid-career survey of the artist's work that unites nearly 40 works on paper with 35 paintings dating from 1996 to the present.

Participants include Josette Bushell-Mingo, Sweden-based English theatre actress and director of African descent; Milton S. F. Curry, Dean and Professor at the University of Southern California School of Architecture; Mira Henry, design faculty at SCI-Arc and co-principal of the design firm Current Interests; Rodney McMillian, artist and professor of sculpture at UCLA; and Kulapat Yantrasast, founder and creative director of wHY, an integrated design studio with workshops of buildings, grounds, objects, ideas, and museums.
Facilitated by exhibition curator Christine Y. Kim.
